Embark on a visual journey through Jordan, a land filled with ancient wonders, breathtaking landscapes, and mind-blowing experiences. Join us as we traverse through the mystical city of Petra, venture into the vast expanse of Wadi Rum, conquer the canyons of Wadi Mujib, and indulge in the serene waters of the Dead Sea.
Petra, the Treasure Built in the Rocks
Nestled within the red desert mountains, Petra stands as a testament to ancient craftsmanship. As you pass through the iconic Siq, a narrow canyon flanked by towering cliffs, prepare to be awestruck by the grandeur of Al-Khazneh, also known as the Treasury.
This magnificent architectural marvel served as the backdrop for Indiana Jones’ adventures and is a must-visit highlight of Jordan.
Spend a day wandering through the intricate carvings and hidden tombs that whisper stories of a bygone era. For those seeking a breathtaking view, a hike to the Monastery atop a series of steep steps rewards you with panoramic vistas that stretch as far as the eye can see.
If you are still up to explore at night, immerse yourself in the captivating ambiance of Petra by Night, as the ancient city is beautifully illuminated by the gentle flicker of candlelight, creating a mesmerising atmosphere that adds an extra layer of enchantment to this historic wonder.
Travel Tip #1 _ Be at archeological complex main entrance as early as it opens, you won’t regret it! And you will be privileged by a very special, uncrowded first view of the Treasury (later on it will be packed with tourists, local sellers and camels).
Travel Tip #2 _ Petra by Night is a very suggestive experience, but very close to an overpriced tourist trap. If you have only one night in Petra, you could enjoy a much more meaningful experience strolling through the town and mixing with the locals at one of the yummy restaurants and cafes. If you are still interested in Petra by Night, you can book it here.
Wadi Rum, welcome to Mars!
Prepare for an extraordinary experience in the mesmerising Wadi Rum, often referred to as the Valley of the Moon. Spend a night at one of the well-prepared campsites (or in one of the famous martian tents) under a blanket of stars, immersing yourself in the tranquility of the desert
Embark on a thrilling jeep safari through the golden dunes and feel the rush of adrenaline as you try your hand at sand-boarding, gliding down the slopes of soft sand. The vastness and silence of Wadi Rum are sure to leave an indelible mark on your soul.
Travel Tip #1 _ If you are willing to splurge on your accommodation in the desert, do it for one of the magic martian tents (also known as bubbles). We stayed at the Hasan Zawaideh Camp and had an awesome experience.
Travel Tip #2 _ Go on a sunrise jeep tour in the desert, waiting for the sun to rise and the morning shades colouring the desert are an experience themselves.
Travel Tip #3 _ There are multiple options for a day tour in the desert. I would recommend Viator, as a good source of legit and well-reviewed tours of different duration. But you can also ask your accommodation to arrange the tour for you.
Wadi Mujib, An Adventurer’s Paradise
In the dry season, when the waters recede, Wadi Mujib opens its doors to the more adventurous travellers. Slip into your water shoes and get ready to conquer nature’s obstacles as you embark on a (light) canyoning adventure. Trek through the rugged terrain, squeeze through narrow gorges, and plunge into crystal-clear pools. This exhilarating journey leads you to a hidden gem – a magnificent waterfall cascading down the canyon walls. The dry season is the perfect time to visit Wadi Mujib, as it offers a rare opportunity to explore this natural wonder.
Travel Tip _ Pack a waterproof phone case, it is very much needed in the crossing and you’ll be happy to have your phone to take a shot at the majestic waterfalls you’ll find at the end of your adventure!
The Dead Sea, Nature’s Spa Haven
Indulge in the ultimate relaxation at the lowest point on Earth – the Dead Sea. Float effortlessly on its salt-rich waters, experiencing a weightless sensation unlike any other.
Treat yourself to a natural spa day by smearing the regenerative mud onto your skin, allowing its mineral-rich properties to rejuvenate your body. The Dead Sea’s unique combination of salty water, mineral-rich mud, and the healing effects of the sun make it a haven for wellness seekers.
Travel Tip _ Make sure you book a hotel with access to a Dead Sea beach. There are public beaches, but you’ll be very grateful of the shower facilities to wash out the mud and the extra salt.
